    art Woman of the Earth

cracked open by life
by poets, shamans, healers
wise women, children and fools

the immanent, the transcendent
the broken, the whole

described in her art and life
as an elegant primitive
her work awakens viewers

exploring paradox, polarity, emotion
movement and stillness

her work is simultaneously
personal and universal

simple and many layered
provoking and comforting
alive and still

Just a brief note to tell you how much i enjoyed your work. It evoked a “wonderful” feeling of spiritual joy grounded in appreciation of day to day reality. In someone who is suspicious of the “super”natural, it opened a door to prayer through appreciation of the ordinary. Thanks!!”

Your photographs are insightful, joyful, nuanced.
I could go on & on raving about how you capture the essence & spirit of a person...the spontaneous moments...the expressions and postures…

Judy Rosenthal was born with the eye to catch the instant.
Her photographs, no matter the subject, always capture the curl of the wave of action before it crashes into the common-place.
Her work is intimate, profound, joyous, reflective and vital.
She was born to the camera, and the camera was invented for her.

I am moved by her work. No New Haven artist better captures space and awakens viewers -better participants- than she does. Her work is fresh, accessible, and yet visceral in its penetration. She chooses bold venues to work in. You can come upon her work and say “oh wow, this is art!” She informs us about the nature of art. her work is novel, yet it feels grounded in ancient tradition. When she installs cloth flags, they have the mystery of totems of south east Asian tribesmen.

Inspirational, elegant, beautiful, sensitive, natural,
in synch with nature, emotion, environment, the possible,
related to a dream and a vision,
technically adept, professional,
caring, a loving lens
A loving eye. A loving heart. A sharp mind. Detail and gestalt.
